MSME Funding in Nigeria: Insights, Impact, Accountability

The NESG MSME Community of Practice (CoP) works with entrepreneurship ecosystem players in Nigeria to address key gaps within the ecosystem such as capacity building and business support; access to markets; policy and regulations; and access to finance. Access to finance was adopted as one of the core focus areas for the CoP considering the critical role it plays in enabling business growth.

There have been ongoing passionate conversations within the CoP on the access to finance challenge particularly touching on current funding programmes with the goal of developing recommendations that can be shared during engagement sessions with policy makers. Building on these ongoing conversations and to better understand the funding situation, the focus of the conversation at the pre-summit event will be on MSME funding in Nigeria: Insights, Impact, Accountability. Conversations will specifically look at funding MSME programmes in Nigeria to draw insights, trace impact, identify strengths/gaps and show improvement areas.

Objectives

1.     To explore the effectiveness of current MSME Funding programmes, drawing insights, tracing impact and addressing gaps

2.     To identify and discuss specific systems and processes that entrench accountability

3.     To share case study examples and take away key learnings

4.     To arrive at a proposed accountability model that will work for Nigeria and can be shared as a recommendation at NES 27

5.     To gain stakeholder buy-in with regards to implementation of recommendations
