Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to Launch “He For She” Gender Equality campaign in Lagos State

In line with the advancement of Gender Equality in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Woman affairs and Social Development, in collaboration with the United Nations Spotlight Initiative, recently mandated all states and the Federal Capital Territory of the federal republic of Nigeria to join the global movement for gender equality by launching the “HeForShe” campaign in their respective states.

The “HeForShe” campaign will be a platform through which men and boys become agents of change. It is an initiative for men to stand in solidarity with women to create a bold, visible and united force for gender equality.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Nigeria’s leading think tank, held a meeting to initiate the NESG Community of Practice on Gender in December 2019 to allow key stakeholders/individuals across private and public sector groups collectively own and champion the issues around women through the NESG’s structured approach of deliberating, agreeing and advocating on policy focal points. Furthermore, the NESG Community of Practice will act as a facilitating block for addressing policy areas regarding women and interactions with the Policy Commissions, and ensure deliberate focus on the key issues affecting women are paid attention to and addressed effectively.

The Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu is expected to flag off the campaign in the state through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation on the 28th of January, 2020.

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) is Nigeria’s foremost private sector led think-tank organization that promotes sustainable growth and development in the Nigerian economy. It is a not-for profit/non-partisan organisation with a mandate to promote and champion the reform of the Nigerian economy into an open, private sector-led economy that is globally competitive on a sustainable basis. Over the years, it has emerged as the leading platform for public-private dialogue in Nigeria.
