The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), in collaboration with GIZ PACT, is convening a series of events to engage the international community, development partners, donors, and development finance institutions—including GEAPP, Ford Foundation, NZW, the World Bank, USAID, USTDA, UNIDO, IEA, RMI, and others—in support of Nigeria’s Energy Transition. These engagements aim to address key challenges by providing strategic guidance to partners involved in related initiatives and supporting targeted activities that advance Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable energy future.
These events will ultimately bring about information and policy that support interventions that drive the energy transition and inclusive development by unlocking opportunities in the energy sector and carbon market, simulating climate change resilience and economic development, unlocking private sector and employment opportunities, research and development.
Based on the outcomes of previous sessions (both webinar and in-person), a critical gap was identified: the need to specifically address the clean cooking sector through a more in-depth discussion to determine the interventions required to accelerate the energy transition and achieve Net Zero by 2060.
As a result, a dedicated session on the clean cooking sector has been scheduled for May 27th. Following this, the final close-out event in the series, scheduled for May 28th, will consolidate insights from all previous engagements, highlight lessons learned, identify actionable strategies, and define clear next steps to align stakeholder efforts with Nigeria’s net-zero ambitions.
