MSME CoP General Assembly

Nigeria’s Nano, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (NMSMEs), as with other small and growing businesses around the world, drive job creation and economic growth, particularly at sub-national levels and are the lifelines of several families and communities. However, persistent challenges around accessing markets, accessing finance, regulatory and policy gaps, and an unstable business environment have continued to undermine the Nigerian entrepreneurship ecosystem.

This has significant implications on job creation and inclusive economic development in Nigeria. While there are a myriad of challenges requiring attention, the Community of Practice on MSME has identified three core areas requiring urgent policy reforms in the Nigerian entrepreneurial ecosystem.

These are: Access to finance, Access to markets and Taxation. These challenges have consistently ranked among the top five (5) issues confronting MSMEs, and the Community of Practice is focused on realising the needed policy reforms to strategically and sustainably address gaps.

The General Assembly is expected to provide an opportunity for members of the MSME Community of Practice to learn about the activities of the MSME CoP, the agenda for the year and how to support the policy advocacy efforts of the Community of Practice. It will form a platform for agenda-setting for the year, highlighting the impact of previous initiatives by the CoP and proposed strategies going forward.

A good understanding of the proposed policy advocacy plans of the Community of Practice is essential to get the needed support from the MSME Community.
