Dr. Uchenna Ogbonna

Executive Director of the Ernest Shonekan Centre for Legislative Reforms and Economic Development

Dr. Uchenna Ogbonna is the inaugural Executive Director of the Ernest Shonekan Centre for Legislative Reforms and Economic Development (ESC) at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG). Appointed following the Centre’s launch during the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES 29) in October 2023, he leads the Centre’s mandate to advance impactful legislative reforms and promote sustainable economic development in Nigeria.

With over two decades of professional experience spanning law, financial services, corporate governance, and legislative reform, Dr. Ogbonna brings deep private-sector insight and strategic leadership to the role. His career has been defined by senior-level responsibilities in investment management, compliance and regulatory oversight, government relations, business operations, and board advisory functions. He has led and executed high-level transactions, including investments, fund management, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border contract negotiations, and commercial finance administration.

Dr. Ogbonna possesses a strong multidisciplinary academic foundation. He holds an LL.B in Law and a BL degree from the Nigerian Law School, an MBA in Insurance and Risk Management, an MSc in Management, and a Doctorate in Strategic Management and Leadership. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Management, reflecting his continued commitment to advancing knowledge in strategic leadership and governance.

As Executive Director of the Ernest Shonekan Centre, Dr. Ogbonna is responsible for shaping and executing the Centre’s strategic vision. He leads initiatives focused on strengthening legislative, regulatory, and judicial reform frameworks at both national and subnational levels. His role includes building strategic partnerships across the public and private sectors, driving research that generates actionable policy insights, and advocating reforms that enhance Nigeria’s business environment, competitiveness, and investment climate.

Under his leadership, the Centre is positioned to provide structured coordination and thought leadership in legislative reform, contributing to a more efficient policy environment that supports economic growth, inclusivity, and long-term national development.

Dr. Ogbonna’s blend of legal expertise, strategic management experience, and governance insight uniquely equips him to drive transformative reform initiatives and advance Nigeria’s economic progress.
