What happens after the Summit?

After the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit, the conversations continue and all the discussions from the summit are made available as a green book to the public. Each of our Policy Commissions also use the discussions from the summit to continue their Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) engagements into developing policies in their different sectors.

The NES #26 will be a hybrid event which combines in-person and virtual attendance of plenary and breakout sessions. The in-person will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. This will be in line with social distancing regulations.

The theme of the 26th NES is “Building Partnerships for Resilience” The 26th Nigerian Economic Summit (NES #26) will convene national and global policymakers, business leaders, development partners, and scholars to lead and participate in sessions that will focus on building strategic partnerships and cooperation between governments, businesses, and the civil society for resilience. It will be part of a ‘Big Conversation for Action’ that combines in-person and virtual dialogues to: • Reflect on the state of the economy, rethink our economic fundamentals, and deliberate on the impact of the global pandemic. • Highlight the role of Nigeria’s sub-nationals as frontiers for national development. • Explore emerging trends in the horizon that will enable Nigeria to capitalize on new opportunities. • Agree on a compact with clear and decisive actions that commits stakeholders to collaborate and build resilience for Nigeria’s households, businesses, and economy by ensuring that Nigeria meets the SDGs by 2030.

What are the benefits of the Nigerian Economic Summit?

The main focus of the Summit is short to medium-term policy direction while giving priority to the national interest in the context of the evolving global economy. The annual Nigerian Economic Summits are a means for improving and generating better domestic policies via cooperation. Over the years, the summits have contributed to improving domestic economic policymaking and remains a significant forum for sharing information. It is interesting to reflect that a substantial proportion of the recommendations made by the NES over the past years have since become part of Government Policy and have been or are being implemented by the Federal Government.

What does the NESG do?

Over the years, the NESG has achieved significant progress in the areas of research outputs, execution of programmes, seminars, conferences and workshops aimed at facilitating the formulation and implementation of social and economic reform programmes for the growth and transformation of the Nigerian economy. The NESG has emerged as the most notable platform for public-private dialogue in Nigeria and has also established an excellent working relationship with the Government of Nigeria, the public sector, the private sector, and other stakeholders.

Is the NESG a government agency?

The NESG is NOT a government agency. The NESG is a non-profit, non-partisan private sector organization with a mandate to promote and champion the reform of the Nigerian economy into an open, private sector-led globally competitive economy.

Who founded the NESG?

The NESG was founded in 1993 by a group of passionate and concerned private sector leaders representing key economic sectors. They conceived the Nigerian Economic Summit (NES) and sustained it as a platform for bringing together private sector leaders and senior public sector officials to discuss and dialogue on the future of the Nigerian Economy.

What does NESG stand for?

The acronym ‘NESG’ stands for the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.
